iAWFUL 7. New Jersey Social Networking Bill

#7. New Jersey bill to regulate social networks

What’s so AWFUL?  Would turn social networking sites into social networking police.

New Jersey legislation ( SB 326 ) would require social networking websites to promptly investigate user allegations of harassment and report investigation results ”upon request” from the complaining user.

Many covered websites already have a ‘report abuse’ button and remove abusive users. However, faced with adverse publicity and cost of lawsuits, these services could be forced to lower the bar they use to kick-off anyone who’s the subject of a complaint.

The proposal also isn’t confined to websites based in New Jersey — it would regulate any website, anywhere, that can be used by New Jersey residents.
